Lose Weight Or Gain Strength?

Words are important. Novels are strategically written to evoke emotions and land you in the presence of the hero or the villain. Words like “seduce” and “vanquish” are used in place of win or lose. Rarely do you hear that come out of the mouth of people in real time or at all. It implies commitment to a risk, which most won’t ever take. The language used draws emotion and creates action in one’s mind and sometimes, if driven seductively, their soul. You become bonded to an idea.

When I hear that a client wants to “Lose” weight I challenge them to reconsider their goal or motive. When you want to lose something there is a sense of burden or even shame affiliated with that energy. Yet when we lose something there is an innate attempt to find it again. To seek what was comfortable and known. As much as we despise or realize something is not serving or meant for us anymore, we, or at least I, want to seek and take one more peek at what was lost. To go back, just one more time to find what we lost.

The storage industry thrives on this. To “hold” on to trivial and futile items that once served us but have no use to us anymore. Our bodies are similar to the storage unit. Is it full of useless things like shame, guilt or even lies about our body or is it light and spacious  with  plenty of space for a new and priceless identity.

When we “Gain” a new image of ourselves there is absolutely NO room for garbage. Get rid of it and throw it out right into the dumpster of the past. Please just don’t “Lose” it! You may find yourself looking for it again. You don’t need it anymore. Don’t even donate that crap. You will do no one any favors, trust me. But we must earn and work for these new precious gifts. The Gift of strength and confidence. The presence of a person that radiates conviction and hope to those around him or her.

I personally want to Gain strength and Lose insecurity. I have no interest in losing insecurity because I know that my work and discipline toward my goal will automatically take care of the Trash. No time or energy is consumed by the garbage but rather focused on the ultimate prize of strength. Focus on the gains. Trust the process and I guarantee you will experience the removal of useless crap for the room of valuable and cherished rewards.
